Former Plans & Apologies frontman releases album, almost a decade in the making, to raise funds for the mother of former bandmate.
Almost ten years ago, Dave Williams (then signer, songwriter and guitarist in Derby indie pop favourites, Plans & Apologies) with the help of musically-minded friends and P&A bandmates, Rob Newman and Jamie Cattermole, began to pen a number of new songs under the alias, 'The Last Starfighters'.
In the years that followed, recordings were made and subsequently shelved. However, the fruits of the project have now been released in the form of an album entitled 'Happy Accidents', with all monies raised going to Penny's Fund - a charity set up to pay for medication and treatment required by Penny Wheeler, the mother of another of Williams' former bandmates, Dan Wheeler.
The Last Starfighters' Bandcamp page offers a more detailed history of the project, as well as further information about those involved and Penny's Fund;
"All proceeds from the sale of this album, minus the fees to bandcamp and paypal, will be donated to charity. It is a very worthy cause: Penny's Fund.
Penny is the mother of Dan Wheeler, who took the photograph used for the front cover, played guitar on bits of this album, and is a very lovely person due to being brought up by the very lovely Penny. She requires financial aid to afford the drugs that she desperately needs.
How better to raise money for a seriously ill person than to offer the introspective and self-pitying misery-core of a self-involved teenager? Enjoy."
You can purchase the album now from The Last Starfighters' Bandcamp page for a minimum donation of £2. To read more about Penny's Fund, visit .
[EDIT] - Penny's Fund have now . Consequently, all monies made from the sale of the album will now be donated to The Scleroderma Society.
