James Oldrini, a British born contemporary piano composer who hails from Belper, recently released his debut single ‘Raggi d’oro’.
Oldrini isn’t from the usual sort of background you’d expect a contemporary classical composer to come from! His recent past as a rock musician has seen him touring the country playing alongside the likes of The Kooks, Viva Brother, Tribes and The Bluetones as well as partying with the odd celeb such as Amy Winehouse and Tyler James.
However you shouldn’t jump to conclusions about Oldrini or his hometown, which has punched above its weight over the years producing a knighted actor known for a certain infamous naked wrestling scene, a gold medal winning swimmer, a ‘James Bond’ and a well-known ‘Coronation Street’ actress – as well as a very talented musician now too.
Oldrini is back to his roots, his love, his passion, entirely focused on writing thought-provoking contemporary piano scores with minimalist and ambient elements. After overwhelming support for his music on social media, he is very excited about his debut release.
“Raggi d’oro translates to ‘Rays of Gold’ and like all of my tracks is composed with personal meaning to me. It results in the creation of a piece which is positive and rich in melody. The track portrays the sense of a story that develops throughout the score and is enriched with feelings of warmth and reflection. Of course, this is thought-provoking, emotive music and could be the soundtrack to your own story!” - James Oldrini
His influences include contemporary composers and cinematic composers such as Ludovico Einaudi, Olafur Arnalds, Dustin O'Halloran, John Williams and Hans Zimmer as well as Holst, Arvo Pärt and many more.
Still resident in Belper, a short drive from the derelict factories and converted mills of his hometown takes him out to the breathtaking scenery to be found in the Peak District, so inspiration is never in short supply. Here in the heartland of England is to be found a composer with true international potential.
