Showcase events have been announced for iD Fest, a film festival conceived and hosted by QUAD, Derby from May 10 - 12.
The programme for 2013 will include showcase events with special guests, industry professionals - actors directors producers and film critics. The programme also includes film previews, premieres, professional practice events and exhibitions, offering something for film fans to filmmakers. QUAD is Derby's centre for art and film and iD Fest’s patron is David Morrissey who is currently appearing in hit US TV drama 'The Walking Dead'. This years’ festival will have the theme of 'Family'. From the earliest days of film, the family has been a fertile ground for filmmakers to explore whether it be the nuclear family unit of 2.4 children or more contemporary interpretations of non-traditional families. Looking at brothers and sisters, parents and children, communities and all manner of collectives, iD Fest will be a fly-on-the-wall investigating the nuances of love, fear, resentment, fun and more that make up our sense of identity defined by what we describe as family.
iD Fest Showcase events will welcome to QUAD the following special guests; Author, Director, Terry Jones talks about his multi-faceted career including creating The Late Show and as a founder of the legendary Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Martin Stephens will talk about his experiences as a former child actor performing in The Innocents, Hammer Studios’ The Witches and Village Of The Damned; The life and career of Derby-born Sir Alan Bates will be celebrated with a panel discussion with friends, family and contemporaries: Dame Janet Suzman, Photographer Martin Bates, director Mark Woolgar and Radio 4 film journalist Scott Jordan Harris. A veteran of stage and screen, Dame Janet Suzman will also be in conversation with Tony Earnshaw about her lengthy career. Derby actor Jack O’Connell will give a Q&A followed by a preview of his latest film The Liability.
The showcase events will be interspersed with screenings from the themed film programme and the festival will open on Thursday 9th May with a special preview of an un-released film, all of which are to be announced. There will also be selected screenings of shorts and features by local and international filmmakers.
Adam Buss and Adam Marsh, iD Fest Directors, said “iD Fest is a place where audiences can be inspired by events, screenings and guests from the world of film. We want to celebrate the magic of film and give audiences in Derby access to content that otherwise wouldn’t come to the city, as well as showcasing talent from all over the world with screenings of films by new film makers. We want iD Fest to be a boutique film festival that inspires and entertains in equal measure. This year we welcome Terry Jones, Dame Janet Suzman, Martin Stephens and Jack O’Connell to the festival, all of whom bring a unique take on the world of film."
